Lilliputian Engineers
The program Lilliputian Engineers is designed for Kindergarten students (4 and 5 years old). Children make their first steps in the world of science, technology and engineering. Through game-play activities, they explore concepts, phenomena, create one or more structures at a time, make observations and draw conclusions about the world around them. Each activity is “disguised” with a special story that magnetizes the interest of our tiny scientists and invites them to seek solutions to specific problems.
The constructions are made with educational material from the LEGO DUPLO Education series. Activities are accompanied by relevant audiovisual material and specially designed worksheets that allow the children to verify what they have learned by observing. Children through experiential activities with materials familiar to them acquire knowledge in a fun way, adapted to their age, and come to love science and gain a positive attitude towards them in their later school life. The aim of the program is for children to get acquainted with simple concepts of physics, mathematics, engineering and technology in a very young age. We also seek to cultivate skills such as observation, imagination and ingenuity.
Young Engineers
The program Young Engineers is designed for students of the first three grades of primary school and enables them to be transformed into small scientists. Always aiming to solve a particular problem, they learn to work together and make use of their skills. By constructing simple but also complicated models, small engineers learn experimentally the utility of “Simple Machines” (gears, pulleys, levers, wheels and axles) and are familiar with the operation of mechanisms they encounter in their daily environment.
The constructions are built using LEGO Education materials and all activities are accompanied by specially designed worksheets that allow the child to verify what he/she has learned by observing. Experiential learning offers, in an entertaining and playful way, knowledge easily perceived and urges children to approach and love sciences and explore their inclinations in them. The purpose of the program is to get acquainted with simple machines and motion, which is not taught in public education. We also aim to develop ingenuity skills in problem solving and team spirit.
Introduction to Educational Robotics
The program Introduction to Educational Robotics is designed for students in the upper classes of primary school, where through group work around the construction of a robotic model that interacts with the real world in real time, children live an exciting and entertaining experience that they do not want to end!
Each construction has “artificial intelligence” that is the product of students’ algorithmic thinking and is realized through a digital program, which they easily draw themselves on the touch screen of a tablet wirelessly connected to the robotic structure.
The realization of this whole process involves children in practical, active, teamwork exploratory experimentation (early scientists), helps them conquer learning, knowledge and language skills through questioning, search for motifs, choosing strategies and formulating conclusions.
The knowledge that children acquire in this program may of course be useful to them if they want to participate in the annual Pan-Hellenic Educational Robotics Competition for Primary School students, which is the forerunner of the World Olympics of WRO. The purpose of the program “Introduction to Educational Robotics” is the exciting learning of physics, technology, mathematics and engineering (S.T.E.M.), practically, without theories and unnecessary terminology, and methods of problem analysis and problem solving. At the same time, it is possible to develop skills of ingenuity, algorithmic & programming skills and team spirit demonstration.
